Choose a kennel trench drain system with either slotted or perforated grates that prevent animal paws claws and hooves from getting stuck. The best method is to cast the drain into the concrete slab however you can purchase cages with a trench drain built into a raised floor.

Animal facilities have trench drain systems installed within enclosures to control the flow of wast as well as water runoff when the areas are being sanitized. Both dog kennels and animal hospitals tend to get dirty very quickly with all sorts of waste material and a dog kennel drainage system helps manage this situation. In my next post i will be discussing proper floor drain placement and concrete design for the kennel. This post takes that thought a step further.

When casting the drain into the concrete it is best to design the kennel area so that the cages can be washed from the isle to the back of the kennel. Floor drains make it easier to clean floors of this type of waste which also eliminates the risk of bacteria growth and contamination if utilized correctly.
